this something positive strip (to sum up: chick from davan's past asks him to go with her for an abortion) reminded me of no less than three people who have all been surprised by the fact that i don't have 'oh fuck' reactions to a lot of things.

I'm the same. I think it's because I'm dead inside.
I've gotten it a lot with shit like "i was raped/abused" -- shit that's sensitive but that people get tired of having other go on and on about; "oh you poor little porcelain doll! let me take care of you and protect you from the big bad world!" kind of thing.
